Clinicians
I have built many tests that I use in
my clinical practice and which psychiatrists, psychologists, social
workers, physicians and counselors may also find helpful. You can
download the tests free, photocopy them, administer them in your waiting
room (the client simply reads and fills out the tests) and then pull up
my Web Site, enter the data from the answer sheet and receive your
report via e-mail. Your checking account is billed automatically. If you
serve a rural population, you could mail a test to your client, have it
mailed back and then score it at your office.
For each of the tests listed here you can learn reliability and validity
data in "Technical Information About Tests". There is a manual for
each test which you can download. The manuals describe the test
design and provide reliability and validity data. I only market tests
for which I think these statistics are sound.
AVAILABLE TESTS
McConochie Quick
Verbal Quotient (McQVQ)
This 60-item true-false test takes
10-15 minutes. You can use a pocket calculator for the few arithmetic
items. It
has five separate types of questions similar to those in a widely used
clinical I.Q. test, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. The areas are
Vocabulary, Similarities, Arithmetic, Decisions (Comprehension) and
Information. The McQVQ provides a score that is likely to be close to your
Wechsler I.Q.
Length of Test:
10-15 minutes
Age Level:
Adults
Price: $5.95
McConochie Depression Scale (McDep)
This 70-item scale measures symptoms of
clinical depression, including several section scores, as
for suicidality and sleep problems. It includes a fake bad scale and 13
causal items (e.g. lack of friends, severe losses and chronic pain).
This test has validity data superior to the Beck Depression Inventory,
detailed in the manual, which also provides
diagnostic suggestions by score level.
Length of Test:
10 minutes
Price: $7.95
McConochie Anxiety and Worry Scale (McA&W)
This 90-item scale measures symptoms of
clinical anxiety and provides several
section scores to help you make differential diagnoses between various
anxiety disorders (agoraphobia, panic disorder, generalized anxiety
disorder, paranoia, etc.). It also provides a separate measure of worry
and information about what, specifically, worries
the client.
Length of Test:
15-20 minutes
Price: $7.95
McConochie Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Scale (McPTSD)
This 44-item
scale measures symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and
provides separate scores for McPTSD, prepheral (combat-related)
McPTSD, Suicidality and a fake bad measure.
Length of Test:
10-15 minutes
Price: $5.95
McConochie ADHD Scale (McADHD)
This 58-item test has been normed on both children and adults. The
report provides separate scores for Attention Deficit and for
Hyperactivity. It also provides an "alternative explanation score",
based on included brief
measures of Big Five personality traits and intelligence. Research has
shown that this alternative explanation dimension correlates highly with
ADHD symptoms as reported by the client (or rating parent). Many cases
of ADHD appear explained by extreme scores on normal personality traits
and intelligence.
Length of Test:
10 minutes
Price: $5.95
McConochie At Risk for Violence Test
(McARFV)
This 58-item questionnaire assesses ten traits that
put children and adults at risk for delinquent and criminal behavior,
including violent acts. Persons with elevated scores on this test
are more prone to antisocial behaviors than those with lower scores.
Knowing specific areas of at-riskness can help change
them, as by improving friendships and career satisfaction, being less
rigid in thinking, feeling guilty and sorry for
wrongdoing and reducing access to guns and violent movies, video
games and music. You may also choose to seek professional assistance to
explore your specific areas of at-riskness.
Length of Test:
10 minutes

The Big Five Inventory (BFI)
This 44-item test, developed by Oliver P.
John, Ph.D. and V. Benet-Martinez in 1998, is in the public domain and
has been normed on tens of thousands of adults. It provides a score for
each of the Big Five personality traits (Conscientiousness,
Agreeableness, Emotional Stability, Extroversion and Intellect or
Openness). Scores on these traits can often
explain important issues for adults and thus simplify counseling
efforts. For example, an extrovert working as a night janitor was
depressed. Finding a day job, where he could relate to other people,
went a long way toward relieving his depression.

The Big 5/45 and CAPPs Report
The Big 5/45 is a comprehensive personality profile. It has 485 items
that measure the Big Five personality traits (Extroversion,
Agreeableness, Openness or Intellectual Interests, Emotional Stability
and Conscientiousness). There are 9 facet scores within each of the 5
main traits.
In addition to scores on
all 45 facets and total scores, you will receive hints on which of 305
jobs for which your personality might suit you. For many jobs, however,
personality is not a strong predictor, so don't put too much faith in
the job scores. More than by personality per se, career interests seem
to be formed by experience, persons after whom we model ourselves,
educational opportunities and on-the-job experiences.
Length of Test:
40-60 minutes

Adults
